Thanks to the real-time component of the activities, the data, its development and implementation in existing observatories, LIDO is offering a unique opportunity to monitor noise at a spatial and temporal scale never before realised. The access to the continuous flow of data has allowed the development of an exclusive database of sound sources which have been used to build training sets; these are permanently updated and used to calibrate the LIDO algorithms and are applicable to almost any scenario: sea state, geographic location, noise level, etc.

The number of observatories that have included the LIDO approach is growing. The site currently links to listening networks in the northern hemisphere. Soon 11 more will be added, connecting to hydrophones in the South Pacific, South Atlantic and the southern Indian Ocean. Indeed, LIDO can be implemented in any existing or future observatory, even to a simple hydrophone. If you are interested in joining this unique network, please contact
